The Telegraph is reporting that baby food company Cow & Gate has recalled a batch of 19,000 packets of banana muesli after reports of insect larvae being found in it.
The problem was found in the product My First Banana Muesli, which is made for children 10 months and older.
“A total of 19 complaints about moth larvae in the packets came from across the UK,” says company spokesman Helen Messenger. However, it seems there may be more of a problem than the company is letting on.
“On October 7, one customer claimed that a spider’s web and a maggot had been found in a pack of muesli,” reports Telegraph. Additionally, another family found a wasp in a box of rice in early October. When asked about these claims, Messenger told Telegraph, “We have no concerns about any of our other products. Consumers reporting foreign bodies in products is not unusual in the food industry. Our investigations typically find that it’s not of factory origin although these recent conversations are things that we are investigating.”
For now, parents should avoid the recalled product or contact the company for information on refunds.
